About
"Keeping Pets in Their Homes and Out of Shelters"
Here at Food Banks for Pets, our approach is a bit different. Our philosophy is based on the premise of, “Give someone a fish and you feed them for a day, teach them to fish and you feed them for a lifetime.”
So, instead of obtaining and distributing food, we provide training and financial support to food banks and pantries so they can start, and maintain pet food programs. This has the effect of multiplying the number of people and organizations obtaining and distributing pet food for those in need.
For example, if Food Banks for Pets focused on obtaining and distributing food, and we had a staff of ten, that would be ten people and one organization available to do the work. If instead, we train the staff of ten food banks to do the same thing, and they each have a staff of ten, we now have one hundred people and ten organizations doing the work.
This also magnifies the effectiveness of your donation.
Our mission is to help as many food banks and pantries as possible to develop sustainable pet food programs.
This will have a five-fold positive effect:
1. Keeps pets in their homes where they can be loved and cared for.
2. Reduces the number of abandonments.
3. Reduces the number of pets surrendered, and alleviates some of the pressure on shelters.
4. Increases donations to food banks in general.
5. Reduces the number of children traumatized by having their best friend and companion taken from them because it cannot be cared for, possibly never to be seen again.
When a family, or anyone with a pet, is in such dire straits that they are seeking food assistance, the pets are suffering as well. The humans involved may (or may not) be the cause of their own difficulties. However, the animals involved are innocent and had no part in creating the situation. Unfortunately, in spite of this, the pets are often the ones who suffer the most.
A donation no greater than the cost of a cup of coffee, from enough people, can make this project a success, and bring the benefits it can provide to thousands of innocent pets and the humans who love them.
Please give what you can, and if you can donate or not, please pass the word about this project out through your network. Contact your friends, family, acquaintances, colleagues, and anyone who will listen.
If five people each tell five others, and those tell five each, by the third cycle we will have reached 125 people. By the fith cycle, the number climbs to over 15,000. And by the tenth cycle, the number soars to over 48,000,000. The power of a united community is virtually limitless.
This cause can become an unstoppable force for good, and you are the key to making that happen. Donate, volunteer, spread the word, or all three, either way, you will do a world of good.
